Joan Kelly
Joan Kelly received her BFA at the University of Georgia, and her MA in
Art History at Stanford University. She taught art in Atlanta, and was
Education Coordinator at the Greater Reston Art Center.
Since 1989, her main focus has been painting. She has participated in many exhibitions and workshops, including several in Cortona, Italy. Several paintings were chosen as magazine covers. In 1998, Joan was chosen as poster artist for the Northern Virginia Fine Arts Festival.
"I love strong, bright colors, and the interplay of shapes, patterns, and glowing colors as they emerge and take on a life of their own. I enjoy exaggerating the attitude of the human figure to capture the person’s inner spirit. Last winter, paintings of Hawaii filled my heart with great joy. This winter, I hope to experiment with spontaneous paintings, filled with fantasy and whimsy. I never see black or gray. My personal world is filled with shimmering color!”
